Steve Davis is professional actor, theatre director and playwright.  As an actor, Steve has worked both in television and on the stage. He began his directing career in 1989 while working at Theatre Powys.  He specialises in producing new writing and has directed the work of many playwrights, including acclaimed writers Dic Edwards, Mark Ryan, Paul Swift and Charles Way.   He also specializes in producing work devised with actors on the floor of the rehearsal room.   Steve is renowned for his skill as a facilitator and workshop leader who is able to generate transformative experiences, with a diverse range of groups, including some of the most marginalized people in Wales.

Steve was born into a steel-working family in South Wales. He trained as an actor at the Drama Centre London in 1973 and subsequently worked in theatre and television in both Britain and Europe before returning to Wales.

As Artistic Director of Spectacle Theatre he led the company’s award-winning work at Parc Prison and directed The Lazy Ant by Mark Ryan, winning best production and script at the Shanghai International Theatre Festival.

Steve writes poetry and paints.  In 2012 the Arts Council of Wales awarded Steve the Major Creative Wales Award for Drama, affording him the time and space to explore the relationship between creativity and conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

'…swirling, marvellously-written dialogue, and while some of it has an adult sensibility (and sense of humour) it never loses or patronises its young audience.'
